Five-star Hyatt Regency Kiev - St. Sophia opens in Kiev if first week of September.

The repeatedly delayed grand opening of the second international chain hotel is finally announced for the very beginning of September 2007. During July and August hotel started accommodating minimal amount of guest while management and staff work out details every new venue has to polish. Official Grand Opening Party is expected in the first week of September.

The hotel boasts prime location right across St Sophia cathedral, within a few minutes walk from Independency Square and Kreschatik.

The new hotel offers 234 luxury rooms including 25 suites. The average rate is 300 Euro per night. Hotel facilities include conference and banquet halls, ballrooms, a luxury SPA, swimming pool, shopping as well as two restaurants offering Asian and Western grill cuisine with 8th floor bar and open air terrace.

The Hyatt Regency brand hotels aim on international business travelers.

Hotel construction has been in the work for several years facing many delays. The hotel prime investors are Ukrainian-based company CJSC Sophia Kyiv and Industrial Union of Donbass. In August 2005 CJSC Sophia Kyiv received a credit of $29.5 million from the International Finance Corporation, the private-sector arm of the World Bank. Industrial Union of Donbas became the primary investor in the hotel two years ago. Reports indicate that they pumped more than $50 million into the project.

The Global Hyatt corporation based in Chicago, IL, is the largest privately-owned five-star hotel management corporation in the world with over 735 hotels and luxury resorts in 44 countries around the globe.

While Hyatt is interested in expanding its presence in Ukraine, it is focusing to promote Hyatt Regency Kiev.

"Our first priority is to make sure (Hyatt Regency Kiev) gets off the ground and becomes successful," - Stephen Ansell, the hotel general manager, said.

He adding also that Ukraine is very appealing to international hotel companies due to its location, large population and enormous tourist potential.

"There are no concrete plans right now for any precise expansion, however, we hope to use this as a starting point for our growth," ansell said.

So far Hyatt present in Moscow, Almaty, Bishkek and Baku with confirmed openings in Yekateringburgh, Russia and Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
